The Book of Azrael by Amber V. Nicole

This review has minor spoilers.

Guys, I finally get it. I get the hype and obsession and am hopping on the bandwagon too! This was an incredible read, and I need book 2 as soon as possible!

I am absolutely IN LOVE with Dianna and Samkiel; they are a force to be reckoned with. They’re both feisty and charming, yet are compatible and understand each other’s struggles. I see a bit of myself in both of them—being overprotective of the younger sibling as the eldest daughter like Dianna and feeling lost with my identity and who I want to be like Samkiel. These traits made it easier for me to connect with them and they have become one of my favourite FMC and MMCs of all time.

I also really like Gabby; she reminds me of my teenage self with so much built-up energy and angst. I applaud her ability to speak up for herself without any filter though, I definitely did not have the confidence to do so back then.

The worldbuilding in this is insane! I was hooked from the very beginning and wanted to know more about the lore and the history of the characters. I think the last time I was this obsessed was with the Fourth Wing series, so Nicole 100% did something right!

The only thing stopping me from giving the book 5 stars is oddly the pacing of the narrative. I’m not sure if it’s because I didn’t read it all in one go and kept putting it down and picking it up (because I’ve been busy with life), but I felt like I couldn’t fully immerse myself into the story? This didn’t deter me from enjoying it though, and I had a blast reading it (especially the ending—I need to know what happens to Gabby!).

Overall, The Book of Azrael is a 4.5-star read for me and one to pick up if you are craving an amazing Romantasy with vampires and supernatural creatures! Nicole truly writes her characters well; their charismatic and spunky personalities will make you love them!
