Twisted Love by Ana Huang
“Your enemies are my enemies, your friends are my friends, and if you wanted, I would burn down the world for you.”
Twisted Love was the first contemporary romance I had read in a while (I briefly went through an Emily Henry phase last year and loved reading Happy Place and Book Lovers!), and it did not disappoint! Honestly I fancied a change from my usual fantasy and thrillers and was in the mood to pick this up.
I went into this with no expectation whatsoever, and I kid you not, this book had my WHOLE attention and I couldn’t put it down! I genuinely didn’t think I would enjoy the ‘best friend’s brother’ and ‘billionaire’ trope as much as I thought, but there’s some sort of addictive quality to Ana Huang’s writing which changed my mind and has made me open to reading more books with them in it. I am absolutely in love!
I was and will forever be OBSESSED with Ava and Alex, by the way! Their relationship is chaotic, wild, and imperfect, but I was rooting for them and hoped they were endgame. ALSO THE SMUT WAS EVERYTHING! I don’t normally read books with a lot of it in, but I think I’m going through a hardcore smutty phase and loved every second of it (don’t judge — my menstrual cycle is driving me a little wild at the moment!).
I adore Bridget, Jules, and Stella too. Bridget is the tough-as-nails go-getter who never backs down, which makes her super inspiring. Then there's Jules, the bubbly optimist who's always ready to lift everyone's spirits—her energy is just contagious! And Stella? She's the mysterious one with so many layers; you can't help but want to dig deeper into her story. I need to read the remaining books in the Twisted series because they are unique and individual in their own ways!
Obviously we can’t forget about Josh! Josh is the perfect older brother to Ava. His protective nature really stands out, showing how much he cares for her well-being. He’s always looking out for her, whether it’s stepping in during tough situations or just being there to support her dreams. As the eldest sibling in the family, he reminds me a little of myself, though I’m not crazily overprotective of my younger brother, haha!
We need to talk about the narrative — it was absolutely wild and had some surprising plot twists! I swear this was a thriller in a contemporary romance; there was so much tension and secrets unfolding that I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. Just when I thought I had things figured out, I’d be surprised by another twist! It does end at some point, though, but what gets revealed shocked me a lot. The unexpected turns add a layer of suspense that makes the story exhilarating. This is for sure not your typical love story—more like a rollercoaster ride that keeps you guessing until the very end!
Overall, this is a 5-star read for me! I wish we had more Ava and Alex content because I’m so attached to them. I’ll definitely be checking out the other books in the series after this one!
